::Great store when you are in a bind! I flew Wow Air into Reykjavik, and my luggage was lost for the entire trip (actually today marks two weeks after the trip ended, and it is still lost...). I was stuck in Iceland with nothing but the clothes on my back and a swimsuit (Blue Lagoon). I suffered through a day of nothing but leggings and a sweater, but the next morning I decided that I couldn't do it again. Ellingsen had everything I need to survive the cold...I was able to get a new winter coat, base layers, gloves, and a hat for around $200 usd. If you get into a situation like mine, I would highly recommend this as your first stop. I checked out a few places before this one, but all of them had outrageous prices. Ellingsen was the absolute best as far as selection and pricing!

::Absursdly expensive, even for us locals, avoid at all costs for anything you can get elsewhere

::Not that big (although maybe for Icelandic standards). The staff was not very knowledgeable. They told us the tarp we were looking for was sold out and the item we had was a poncho, while it was in fact the tarp we were looking for. We had to insist ourselves to unpack the item to check it. But in the end we got what we came for, so it is not all bad...

::Reminds me of REI in the US. Great outdoor store with quality products. Not a cheap store, but it has the good stuff. Lots of cool Euro brands I've never seen before. It was fun shopping around in here while a storm raged on outside.
